The post of senior vice-president is critical as the elected member will be automatically promoted to the post of president after a year. Here the competition is between industry veterans KT Patel and Jaimin Vasa. Patel is betting high on his association with the apex body of all industrial estates of Gujarat Industries Development Corporation, Federation of Industries Association (FIA). He is also a member of Vatva Industrial Association which has around 390 votes.

His rival Jaimin Vasa is a prominent face in chemical and dyestuff sector. He has also been the chairman of MSME Committee and Foreign Trade Committee.

In VP category, the contest is between Jayendra Tanna and Bhargav Thakkar. Tanna claims he played a critical role in abolition of octroi from state. He has been active in raising concerns about GST regime. Thakkar on the other hand is a silent player. With Tanna and Patel forming ‘Active Panel’, observers believe they have formed coalition of traders and industrialists.

GCCI has 3,580 personal votes, 204 mahajan together have 465 votes, 39 corporates have 92 votes. Ahmedabad has 2,311 votes, while Saurashtra has 60 and north Gujarat has 55 votes. Results will be announced on Sunday.
