The BJP leader declared that four criminal cases were pending against him - two each in West Bengal and Bihar.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah declared assets of Rs 38.83 crore in his Lok Sabha election affidavit, an increase of Rs 4.53 crore since the Rajya Sabha elections of August 2017.
In his affidavit, the BJP leader declared that he owns movable assets of Rs 18.24 crore, while his wife Sonal owns movable assets of Rs 5.30 crore. Shah's movable assets include Rs 16.25 lakh in savings accounts, fixed deposits of Rs 2.61 lakh, and shares & mutual funds of Rs 17.59 crore. The affidavit said that Rs 14.64 crore worth of shares and mutual fund investments were inherited in 2013. Shah also declared Rs 10.87 lakh investment in small savings schemes. The affidavit said that the BJP leader owns jewellery of Rs 35.29 lakh, while his wife owns Rs 63.34 lakh jewellery. His wife Sonal owns shares of Rs 4.36 crore.
In his poll affidavit filed along with his nomination for the Rajya Sabha election in August 2017, Shah had declared that he and his spouse own total assets of Rs 34.30 crore. The figure rose by Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 38.83 crore in his latest affidavit. Shah declared immovable assets, including land, commercial space, and residential premises, of Rs 12.24 crore in the poll affidavit, and his wife's Rs 3.05 crore, the same as in the 2017 affidavit.
He declared liabilities of Rs 15.77 lakh, and his wife's liabilities at Rs 31.92 lakh. Shah declared income of Rs 53.90 lakh for the year 2017-18, which the affidavit said included his salary and allowances as Rajya Sabha MP, share dividend, and rent & farm income. His wife Sonal, who is a housewife, declared income of Rs 2.30 crore for 2017-18, more than double from the previous year when it was Rs 1.05 crore, as per the affidavit.
The BJP leader declared that four criminal cases were pending against him - two each in West Bengal and Bihar. One of the cases pertains to making inflammatory statements, and the other a criminal defamation case. One of the cases is from 2015 for addressing former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav as 'chara chor' and the second one for hoisting the flag while wearing shoes/chappal.
