During the CID (Crime) investigation into the multi-crore bitcoin extortion and kidnapping case, on Monday, it was revealed that former BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya was connected to the case and was one of the recipients of a percentage of the bitcoin money extorted from Shailesh Bhatt. Bhatt had filed a complaint of abduction, illegal confinement and extortion against Amreli police in February.

On Friday, CID (Crime) officials arrested Kirit Paladiya, partner of Bhatt and nephew of Kotadiya. During his interrogation, it was revealed that he was the mastermind behind the crime and was the one who planned to kidnap and extort Bhatt. Paladiya was sent to six-day remand by the court.

As per officials, 176 bitcoins were extorted from Bhatt's bitcoin wallet. Paladiya had made a deal with Amreli SP Jagdish Patel, Inspector of LCB Anant Patel, other policemen, lawyer Ketan Patel, Ketan's brother Jatin Patel and Nalin Kotadiya. The conspirators were promised a percentage of the bitcoins money worth around Rs 9.45 crore - 15 percent for Nalin Kotadiya, the lawyer and his brother and 15 percent for the police officials.

As per the allegations, Kotadiya got Rs 66 lakh, while the lawyer and his brother got Rs 66 lakh. During the investigation, officials revealed that Paladiya had given Rs 25 lakh from Kotadiya's share to his nephew Naman through a Surat-based Angadia firm, while Rs 10 lakh was given to Navneet (Kotadiya's brother-in-law).

As per officials, Naman has been detained by CID (Crime) and Rs 25 lakh was recovered from him, while Navneet is absconding. It was revealed during investigation that the money was taken by Kotadiya in the name of his brother-in-law and Paladiya's nephew. From the money given to Amreli SP Jagdish Patel, the inspector LCB Anant Patel and other Amreli police officials, CID officials have been able to recover only Rs 2 lakh (from Anant Patel).
