The statistics reveal that number of murder cases declined from 103 in 2016 to 90 cases in the year after that

Crimes such as loots, rapes and thefts saw a sharp rise in Ahmedabad city in 2017 as compared to the year before that, even as cases related to murder declined, official figures show.
State home minister said in a written reply in the Assembly that 253 loot cases were reported in Ahmedabad city in 2017, more than twice the number in 2016 when 125 such cases were reported. Similarly, rape cases went up from 112 to 159, while theft cases shot up from 2,623 in the year 2016 to 3,246 in 2017.
Cases related to abductions rose marginally from 376 to 405, while cases of suicide went up from 792 to 813. Cases related to eve-teasing also more than doubled from 131 in the year 2016 to 265 in 2017.
The statistics reveal that number of murder cases declined from 103 in 2016 to 90 cases in the year after that. “As of December 31, 2017, a total of 49,720 people were arrested in connection to various crimes in Ahmedabad city in the two-year period, while 244 are yet to be arrested,” the reply said.
