At 8.1 degree Celsius, Ahmedabad records lowest temperature in February since 2015

Ahmedabad recorded the lowest temperature for February since 2015. This is of second day in succession that the city has witnessed record low temperatures. According to the daily report of the weather department, the minimum temperature in the city on Saturday was 8.1 degree Celsius, which is 5.1 degree Celsius lower than the normal. It had recorded 9.4 degree Celsius on Friday. It was on February 7, 2015 that the city had recorded 7.8 degree Celsius.

Fresh snowfall in northern India and northerly to northeasterly winds coming to the state have resulted in a cold wave scenario in the state. "Cold wave and cold day conditions prevailed in parts of Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Kutch," said a press statement from India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Friday, night temperatures fell appreciably in parts of Gujarat region.

The lowest temperature recorded on Saturday in the state was 5.8 degree Celsius in Nalia in Kutch district. This was followed by Gandhinagar (6.4 degree Celsius), Deesa (6.6 degree Celsius), Kandla – airport (7.8 degree Celsius), Surendranagar (8.5 degree Celsius), Valsad (9.1 degree Celsius), Vadodara (9.4 degree Celsius), Mahuva (10 degree Celsius), Vallabh Vidyanagar (10 degree Celsius), Bhuj (10.2 degree Celsius), Porbandar (10.2 degree Celsius).

This year, the city has witnessed one of its coldest winters. In addition to temperatures remaining low, the number of cold days has been more than recent years. The weather department has said that cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in districts of Gujarat region, namely Valsad, Surat and Vadodara. However, temperatures are likely to rise next week, according to a report of IMD. Minimum and maximum temperatures in the city are likely to rise by about three degree Celsius, bringing some relief to the citizens.
