Expecting that everything has to be done by the government has become a new trend, this was not a tradition in our country, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Adalaj on Tuesday. Without referring to the Patel community's agitation for reservation quota directly, he said that they should come forward for the growth of the community.

The Prime Minister was addressing an event organised by Leuva Patel community, after laying the foundation stone for the newly built temple of Annapurna Mata, the deity of Leuva Patel denomination of Patidars, at Adalaj near Gandhinagar.

The community was not happy with the BJP government in the state considering the demand of reservation under the leadership of PAAS's Hardik Patel. They were putting pressure on the government to include the Patel community in OBC category.

"There is a recent trend of people expecting that everything has to be done by the government. They would also seek answers from the government for the works that are not done. This was not a tradition in our country before. We encourage social organisations that take up the mammoth task of looking after the well-being of the communities. We do not want to take political benefit out of that," he said.

He also invited financially stable people from the Leuva Patel community to help the underprivileged sections of society. He advised them to establish food processing units that would help local farmers to get more income for their agricultural products.

"Years ago, leaders of Leuva Patel community established Amul Diary which benefited people from all communities. Amul has helped farmers and people involved in animal husbandry of all the communities prosper. Industrialists from Leuva Patel community should also come forward to set up food processing units so that small farmers can reap the benefit and increase their income," he added.
