Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is going to spend Rs 6.57 lakh for the maintenance of the lockers installed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Science and Research (SVPIMSR). The hospital committee had approved the work a few weeks ago without any discussion and knowing the details.
The hospital the committee had approved the purchase of lockers for 1,594 beds in the hospital from a private company along with three years of maintenance. Also, an additional five years contract was awarded to the same company for the maintenance of the lockers at the cost of Rs 6.57 lakh.
"The hospital committee has been reduced to just a purchase committee. They have never asked or inquired about the quality of the work and improvement in the existing hospitals," said Dinesh Sharma, leader of the opposition.
"Why do lockers need maintenance when you are buying new lockers. This means the ruling party does not trust their purchase and are sure that they are not up to the good quality and each locker needs repair after some time. The incumbent party is merely wasting public money and taking a handsome amount in your coffers," added Sharma.
In another agenda, the committee is going to invest one crore rupees for the cardiac table for each bed. "The hospital is new and it needs equipment and other utility. Hence we are purchasing material as per he agenda being moved by the executive committee," said Devang Dani, chairman of the hospital committee.
