At a general board meeting of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday, leader of opposition (LOP) Dinesh Sharma raised concern about money being ‘wasted’ on city’s heritage city nomination. He posed the question at the meeting and stated that it is ‘shameful’ that the city is out of the race.

In his reply, mayor Gautam Shah said that the city was not out of the race and that all queries pertaining to it have been duly answered and sent to concerned authorities. When Sharma asked if the city would make it to the final list of the heritage city race, municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar stated that the review meeting to decide on that is yet to be conducted and is likely to happen in the first week of July.

Despite his assurance about the review meeting, Kumar dodged the question about Ahmedabad’s chances of being considered for heritage city status this year.

Furthermore, the LOP expressed his concern over quality of work being done and on lowest bidders awarded projects ending in a shoddy job.
