Amidst protests and heart burn, the ruling BJP announced the appointment of chairmen of the 12 different committees in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). One corporator from Chandlodia, Kusumben Joshi, refused to be a part of the committee as a member.

During the party's internal agenda meeting early on Friday morning, when Joshi realised that she had not been given a post of chairman or deputy chairman, she started to protest. When contacted, Joshi said, "Being a senior, I was expecting some respect but later, I realised that the juniors were given more weightage in the party. So, I decided to be a disciplined worker of the party only."

Meanwhile after the meeting, several members had a one-on-one meeting with the BJP officer bearers who tried to downplay the entire episode by saying that there are only 12 chairmen and an equal number of deputy chairmen while the party has over 140 corporators.

BJP leader in AMC, Amit Shah, said: "Barring a lady from Chandlodia, there was no one who protested during the meeting. I do not remember any one coming to me to register the protest. They may have talked internally."

Among the 12 members who were appointed as chairman of various committees, there were four who received another term although their committees were changed. Moreover, the Patel community once again had an upper hand amid the appointments, as of the 12 appointed, five were from the community.

A BJP corporator said the party was neglecting seniors. "A Congress member who had joined the BJP in 2012 is given deputy chairman post, but a person who had been working in the party for over several decades was just sidelined. There is a lot of internal unrest, but not many are willing to come forward as they fear that they might be denied re-election in 2020."

After this announcement, there's hardly anybody from former chief minister Anandiben Patel's group left and the BJP national president Amit Shah's members have the upper hand.
