The civic body has sealed a famous eatery after it was found that they did not have the permit to run the unit. The health department of the AMC conducted a routine check in city restaurants over the past three days, and sealed two units – The Grand Thakar and Jassi de Parathe.

According to officials, Jassi De Parathe's unit located at Vastrapur was running without proper health license. "The owners of the food chain has extended their units to two more blocks. They had a license for only one unit of the shop. It is their administrative lethargy that they haven't approached us for a revised license. They don't need to pay anything for the extension, but they haven't informed the department," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

The Grand Thakar was sealed by the AMC over cleanliness. "We have asked them to keep the place clean and we have levied Rs 25,000 administrative charge. The place was closed for a day. After they paid us the fine, we permitted them to operate after inspection by our team," added Dr Solanki.

In the past three days, the officials have inspected several popular eateries and collected 15 samples for laboratory test. Around 400kg of expiry date spices, vegetables, gravy, etc, were destroyed.

From the 15 units inspected, the team collected Rs 52,000 as fine. The samples collected by the officials included asafoetida, chocolate powder (The Grand Thakar), red chutney and mungdal Halva (Jassi de Parathe), tomato gravy (Fozz-ie's Pizzaiolo), tomato gravy (Pragati restaurant), cottonseed oil (Unique restaurant), Malai Paneer (Mayur restaurant), red gravy (Hotel Royal Landmark), brown gravy (Heena Foods and Real Test Restaurant), Mavo (Hasmukh mawavala), chili powder (Shyamshikhar restaurant) and gravy samples from Hyderabadi Biryani.
