Faulty management and negligence of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), has led the civic authorities select bidders for two tenders that were never floated. According to the information sought by a councilor from Jamalpur Shahnawaz Shaikh, the tender was given without it even being applied by the contractor, all this to give work to an associate.
"Engineering Department of Central Zone had issued a tender notice -16/2018-2019 on the civic body's web portal for the work related to water, drainage, building and other repairings. 40 different tenders were issued from 990 to 1029," said Shaikh. "But when the tenders were open there were two more additions, 1030 and 1031, which were never floated. However, the work was awarded to a single bidder," added Shaikh.
According to the councilor, the work allotment process is devious. "How come two tenders have been allotted to a single bidder. How did the bidders receive the tender details? If there are no tenders issued in the given time period, how did they even get approved?" inquired Shaikh.
"This is a small example of how corruption is being carried under the nose of ruling party BJP. I have also learned about the work being offered to those known associates in regards to repairing, carpentry and plumbing supply sanctioned for the newly constructed building. How come without tender, work has been sanctioned? This is a clear case of corruption," remarked the councillor.
Amit Patel additional city engineer of central zone said that without issuing the tender, work can't sought. "The tenders are issued for healthy competition. I don't have much idea about the particular tenders but without notice, we are not giving work," said Patel.
