AlphaOne fined Rs5 Lakh for release of waste water

AlphaOne Mall in Vastrapur finds itself in a controversy once again. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has slapped it with a notice and levied penalty of Rs5 lakh for releasing sewage water in an adjoining plot. The mall has always managed to attract controversy since it came into existence because of protest from residents of nearby societies on one or the other counts.    

The Vastrapur Flats and Societies Residents Association has complained to the civic body that the mall management discharged sewage on public roads on September 4, taking advantage of the heavy rainfall in the city. The residents also complained that discharge of sewage on roads poses a threat to public health and demanded that the civic body seal the mall. It should be noted that on Tuesday, AMC’s health department sealed Diamond Textile Mill in Viratnagar for discharging effluents on to the streets.

The health department of AMC’s new west zone issued notice to the mall authority and levied a penalty of Rs5 lakh. “We have issued a warning to mall authorities not to resort to such action in the future and levied a penalty. In case any such incidents recur, the civic body will take strict action,” said MD Modhia, DyMC, new west zone, AMC.
