Ahmedabad to host annual queer pride parade today

The annual Ahmedabad queer pride is being organised by the LGBTQAI community members and will commence from Ankur crossroads (Tibetiyan) at 10 am and conclude at Darpana Academy in Usmanpura.

The streets of Ahmedabad will don the vibrant rainbow colours on Sunday as members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Allies (LGBTQAI+) communities will carry out a parade for expression, occupying space and celebration of and by all marginalised communities. The annual Ahmedabad queer pride is being organised by the LGBTQAI community members and will commence from Ankur crossroads (Tibetiyan) at 10 am and conclude at Darpana Academy in Usmanpura.

Last year, Ahmedabad pride saw hundreds of people from various walks of life march together, proud of their identities and demanding space in the streets, public consciousness, communities and society. Speaking about the same, a member said, “Ahmedabad pride aspires to be more intersectional, representative and inclusive every year and hopes that people find belonging, joy and purpose here.”

On Saturday, as a precursor to the march, Queerabad had organised a panel discussion titled SamBandh: Dissident sketches, a seminar that attempted to push the boundaries of a conversation around queer art and aesthetic beyond the politics of representation. The series of panel discussion brought practitioners, performers, and writers that work with on the interstices of gender, sexuality, and identity.
