On Tuesday, nearly a thousand students of the school took out a rally — Avoid Crackers-Avoid Cancer — from the school. At the two-hour rally, students not only carried banners and placards related to green Diwali, but also distributed pamphlets containing information about various chemicals in fire crackers and their effects. Principal Indrani Banerjee said teachers of the school had prepared pamphlets containing information about the type of chemicals used to make crackers and its harmful effect on human body parts.

Extending the programme of spreading social message on the festival, students even distributed bags of Diwali goodies among slum dwellers. The bag consisted of items like clothes, grocery, etc brought from home by the schoolkids for the students of Prakash School, an institute for special children.

“Green Diwali is the most memorable event happening this Diwali as a large number of students have taken the pledge not to burst crackers as well as bring smiles to faces of the underprivileged people of society,” said Banerjee.
