A complaint was lodged at the Madhupura Police Station on Monday, by a head police constable, who was working as the driver of the said van. He lodged the complaint after realising that someone was stealing fuel from the van that is parked in the Shahibaug Police headquarters.
Complainant Sarjitsinh Yadav said in his complaint that on Monday morning, at around 9 am, when he reached the Shahibaug headquarters to get the police van, he noticed the lock of the fuel tank was open and diesel had been stolen from the vehicle.
Yadav informed his senior officers about the incident. The officers reached the spot and started checking other vehicles. They later found out that fuel locks of four police vans were open and around 360 litres of diesel had been stolen.
To investigate the matter, the Madhupura Police was called to the spot and from the spot a pipe was recovered which was used to transfer the fuel. Further investigation revealed that one of the police buses parked beside the van was damaged and it seemed like it was hit by a car from the side. The officers tracked the tyre marks of the car and found the car was parked inside the headquarters and its front headlight and bumper were also damaged.
The car belonged to Sidhrajsinh Solanki, a resident of the police headquarters and a police head constable. Further investigation revealed that on the night of the accident Solanki's friend Darpansinh Rathod was also with him.
On the basis of suspicion, a complaint was lodged with the Madhupura Police Station against these two and soon after, the police arrested them.
