The Ahmedabad police is all set for Navratri bandobast at the various locations that attract thousands of garba revellers through the festival.

Police will mainly be focusing on women safety issues and management of traffic congestion, which are issues that usually plague the Navratri celebrations; they will also be keeping a close watch on suspicious elements.

That apart, there will also be bandobast at the 2,049 venues where garba events will be held between October 10 and October 19.

License to hold garba events were given to organisers on the condition that they strictly follow security measures. Police will not allow organisers to use loudspeakers after 12 pm and they also mandated the organisers to provide parking facilities for the people attending the event. CCTV cameras will be have to be installed at all places, metal detectors to check baggage will also be a must. If any of these provisions are not made available, strict action will be taken against them and their license will be cancelled too.

Women safety this Navratri

To ensure the safety of women, police have made special arrangements. Seven hundred and fifty mahila police have been deployed; 14 units of anti-Romeo Squad will also be deployed at the major venues of the city, to nab men who try to harass women.

Decoy teams have been made to nab the anti-social elements. Cops have also pressed 300 vehicles to patrol areas and to reach out to women who need help to reach home safely. Police will drop them at their house if they call the police control room or any police officer at the spot.

Maintain smooth traffic

Police have played hard on the issue, as they are going to tow away any vehicle that will be parked on the roads, creating traffic congestion. Around 56 towing vehicles have been pressed to action. Apart from that, every junction of the city will have traffic cops. Around 1,000 traffic police personnel, including senior officers, will be deployed at 100 such locations. Entry of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 11 pm to 3 am during this time.

Cops to stay awake for 9 nights

The entire police department will be deployed for the bandobast, vehicles will be intercepted and checked and all senior officers will be present in the filed. Around three companies of SRP, 3200 home guards, 18 PCR vans, 14 Anti-Romeo squads, 1000 traffic cops will be deployed along with 750 mahila police personnel, which will also include 12 DCPs, 18 ACPs, 100 PI and PSI level officers.
