The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) health department has served notice to seven hospitals which were found treating swine flu-positive patients despite not having isolation wards.

The seven hospitals were Teuram Hospital (Kubrnagar), Dr Nayan Patel Hospital (Bapunagar), Radhe Hospital (Naroda), Parvati Jadav Hospital (Naroda), Vikas Hospital (Naroda), Sardar Patel Hospital (Maninagar) and AIMS Hospital of Paldi. The city, in 2019, has recorded 722 positive cases and 16 deaths, of which 509 cases were reported in February alone. Last week witnessed two deaths due to swine flu, both of whom were co-morbid patients, according to the department's press release. After a sudden spike in swine flu cases, the health department conducted a survey and checking across different hospitals.

"We had conducted an inspection across different private hospitals which are treating swine flu patients. In the last week, we inspected around 50 hospitals across all the zones and found out that some hospitals were not following the guidelines for treatment of swine flu cases," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of the AMC.
