The health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) collected samples of fafda ingredients from snack making joints in the city on Wednesday. The team had collected samples from 18 different shops chosen randomly. Around 390 kg of snacks were found unfit for consumption and destroyed.

The samples taken were of fafda and jalebi from Baba Ramdev Sweet and Daily – Ramol, Palmolive oil (Ashapura Chawana – Vasna), fafda (Jain Chawana Mart – Vasna), farsi puri (Shri Ram Chawana – Behrampura), Palmolive oil (Bherunath Chawana – Naroda), navrang chawana (Ramdev Traders – Dudheshwar), Palmolive oil (Murli Sweets and Farsan – Odhav), besan (Jain Chawana Mart – Delhi Darwaja), chana dal (Bherunath Namkin – Kubernagar), papdi (Ashapura Farsan – Naranpura), etc.

Estimates state, Amdavadis consumes fafda worth crores of rupees and the eateries make them in advance to meet the high demand. "There is an assumption among people that on Dushera, the shops sells stale fafda and jalebi. We are keeping a strict vigil and collecting samples of such snacks and their ingredients from different shops, during all days of Navratri," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

The samples taken on Wednesday have been sent for laboratory testing and the results of the same will be declared after two weeks.
