During the ‘Mega Traffic Drive’ conducted by the Ahmedabad Police Department and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Sector-2 area of the city, Deputy Municipal Commissioner BK Thakar and former mayor Kishnasinh Tomar’s son, Karansinh, were fined for violating traffic rules.

On Monday morning, a part of the drive was conducted between Shahibuag to Meghaninagar area, covering a 5 km route, in which police officers and AMC officials were present and were demolishing illegal structures and towing illegally parked vehicles and fining offenders.

During the drive, Karansinh’s car was stopped by the police and checked, when a baton was found in his car and he was fined. 

Thakar, on the other hand, was fined for having a dark film on the windows of his car, which was noticed when he had gone to the spot for a visit.

During the drive, luxury vehicles were particularly targeted by cops. The drive was conducted in Meghaninagar, Shahibaug, Ramol, Vatva GIDC, Bapunagar and Naroda areas of the city. 

Ashokkumar Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Sector-2), said, “We are going to take the drive to its next level with day-to-day checking in areas where we have done the drive so that we can maintain pressure on the travellers and implementation of the work we have done so far. “Apart from that, we will also be focussing on clearing traffic at circles and junctions.”

Monday’s drive was carried out in Zones 4, 5, and 6, which together cover a 12 km area, 350 police officials were divided into 60 teams and worked under Yadav’s supervision. The team also consisted three DCPs, three ACPs, 20 police inspectors and other officers of lower rank.

During the drive, 187 notices were issued to defaulters. In all, 29 vehicles were towed and Rs 32,000 was collected in fines.
