The couple did a registered marriage and their family members were unaware about it.
A 28-year-old Sola area man and his family were allegedly assaulted by his in-laws at Jain Derasar for marrying their daughter without permission and also kidnapped his wife forcefully.
As per police officials, the complaint was lodged by the victim Bhavin Shah, a businessman. He stated in his complaint that in 2016, he got married to Palak Desai who lived in the same society. The couple did a registered marriage and their family members were unaware about it.
Around a week back, when the family member came to know about their marriage, the girl’s family was not ready to agree to it. Hence, the couple ran away from home on September 7 and were hiding in Rajkot for three days.
On September 9, Bhavin got a call from his father saying that Palak’s family had agreed to accept their marriage and wanted to meet the couple. Therefore the following day, the couple returned to Ahmedabad and a meeting was fixed between Shah’s parents and Desai’s parents to sort out the issue.
It was decided that the families will meet at the Jain Derasar office located at Navrangpura at around 4.30 pm. Initially, Palak’s father and uncle came to the spot, while there was everybody from Bhavin’s side.
While the meeting was underway inside the office, suddenly around 10 to 12 members from Desai family barged inside the Jain Derasar with lathi’s and iron pipes and started beating Shah’s family members.
When Bhavin tried to stop them, he was also beaten up by the goons. In this whole ruckus, Palak was then forcefully kidnapped in a white bolero.
In the incident, Bhavin’s cousin brother identified as Hermal got injuries on the face and was rushed to the Sal hospital for treatment, while his parents and other relatives sustained minor injuries.
A complaint has been lodged with the Navrangpura police station against accused and further probe is underway.
