Ahmedabad: Girl stabbed to death by lover after she refuses to elope

A 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death after she refused to elope with her alleged former lover.

The incident happened on Thursday evening around 6.30 pm when Mital Jadav, a resident of Bavla town had gone to have street food with her sister Manisha. "Mittal and Manisha were standing beside a street food vendor when three men approached them. Two of them, Ketan and Shravan were on a bike while another Dhanraj was walking," the complaint said.

The complaint said that the three then picked up a fight with the two woman with Ketan insisting that Mittal come with him on his bike. "When she resisted, Ketan became extremely angry and stabbed her in the chest. He then ran away and so did his two friends," said Ramesh Jadav, father of the victim.

People then soon summoned the family of the victim who first rushed her to a private hospital. They then shifted her to a government facility in Bavla and then to VS Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The incident was captured on a mobile camera.

Jadhav later told police that Ketan and Mittal had been in a relationship. "She was to get married on May 26 to one Prakash but Ketan had wanted her to come with him. On an earlier occasion Ketan had also attempted to commit suicide," said Jadhav. He said it was only after the suicide incident that Jadhav came to know of Mittal and Ketan's relation. Cops have arrested one of the accused identified as Ketan from Surendranagar and search for the other two is on.
