Ahmedabad: Drug addict makes hoax bomb call to teach cops a lesson, arrested

Identified as Mirasi Faruk (32), the accused is a resident of Chandola Talav area and is a Quwaali singer by profession.

On Thursday night the Railway police arrested a drug addict from NID area of the city, for making a hoax bomb claim at Kalupur Railway station of Ahmedabad.

Identified as Mirasi Faruk (32), the accused is a resident of Chandola Talav area and is a Quwaali singer by profession. During the interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that in the evening he was checked by the local police.
To teach police a lesson Faruk called the Ahmedabad Control room and told that somebody has planted a bomb at the Kalupur railway station.

Soon after the Ahmedabad Police control received the call at 6.30 pm, teams of Ahmedabad Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad(BDDS), dog squad and Railway Protection Force(RPF) were rushed to Kalupur station.

The country on high alert after the abolition of Article 370 from J&K and with Independence day only a week away. The Ahmedabad Police department too was on high alert. Thus, teams were deployed for investigation immediately after they received the call.

Gautam Parmar, DIGP of Railway police said, "One of the teams were at station checking every hook and corner, while another team was busy tracking the caller. Nothing suspicious was found from the station. Meanwhile, we traced the suspect near NID area. Soon a team was sent to the spot and arrested the accused."

"Primary investigation revealed that the accused was under the influence of drugs and had called the police," said Parmar.
