“We have bookings for around 20 marriages and five of these are scheduled to be held on the special date of 11.12.2013,” confirmed Satyendra Paul, founder of Janata Decorators. Owners of Aangan decors and party plots, Taral Patel and Mahendra Patel, have four couples, who have made bookings with them on 11.12.2013 in addition to handling about six events through outsourcing. “From the last week of November to the middle of December, we have almost 40 bookings. We will be working in double shifts during this period,” said the duo.

Astrologers, however, claimed that with winter being the perfect season for weddings, over 5,000 couples are likely to tie the knot on any one of the 14 days between November 17 and December 13. No doubt party plots, banquet halls, hotels, in and around the city will be booked those days.

This year, there are eight auspicious days in November and seven in December. “According to mythology, god sleeps for four months, from July 13 to November 12, known as Dev Podhi. The almighty wakes up on November 13, which is called Dev Uthi. Marriages are not held these four months. The marriage season starts soon after,” said astrologer Dharmendra Singh Zala.

According to Zala, November 18-20, 25 and 27-30 from December 4-8 and December 10 and December 12 are few of the auspicious dates for marriages. NRIs, who visit India in the last week of December, do not get auspicious dates due to Kumorta and so choose shubh muhurats to tie the knot. Naturally, over 5,000 couples will take their vows in this period, said Zala.

“Marriages in the city will be held from November 17-19 and November 22-25 as well as from December 1-4 and December 10-12. Of course, many have chosen the special day of 11.12.13 to take their wedding vows,” said another astrologer Nandlal Dave. Riddhi Kumar, client service manager of YMCA Banquets, said her team would cater to nearly 50 bookings for marriages and receptions around that time. “We have also around three to four bookings for 11.12.2013 and once Kumorta sets in, NRIs are going to tie the knot,” she said.

Vijay Gandhi, owner of Deep Gandhi Associates at Rajpath Club, claims to have around 25 marriages to take care of this season. “We have two halls and one lawn booked. From the last week of November till mid-December, we are packed. Plus, two to three NRI marriages are scheduled during the Kumorta period,” said Gandhi.
