Ahmedabad: 5,757 traffic offenders nabbed for not wearing helmets

A total of around 180 police officers, including the traffic DCP, Sanjay Kharat, ACP Aakash Patel and other police staff has been formed for the same.

In order to nab traffic offenders in the city, the Ahmedabad traffic police department has started a drive targeting people riding without helmets.

A total of around 180 police officers, including the traffic DCP, Sanjay Kharat, ACP Aakash Patel and other police staff has been formed for the same. There were six teams made by officers of 30 police personnel in each team. The teams were deployed at four different locations of the city. Four teams were deployed at Riverfront road, while one team was at Shivranjani and one at SG Highway.

The cops had barricaded the road and were targeting the commuters, who were not wearing helmets. The drive began at around 9.30 am in the morning and it continued the entire day.

During the drive on Wednesday, around 5,757 traffic offenders were nabbed by traffic police and around Rs 6.2 lakh has been recovered from the violators.

Sanjay Kharat, traffic DCP West, said, "We have conducted the driver to create an awareness among the people regarding the importance of a helmet. The drive was conducted at such places and stretch were we found usually people were not wearing helmets and the six points were made to target them. The drive will continue for 15 more days and will be conducted at different locations."
