Ahmedabad: 32-year-old kills self after mental abuse

A complaint was lodged with the Ramol police station on Tuesday after a 32-year-old woman committed suicide in the Vastral area. Relatives of the victim alleged that she was being mentally and physically harassed by her husband and in-laws. 

The deceased was identified as Jyoti Verma, a resident of Vastral area. The incident took place on Monday. The complaint was lodged by the victim’s brother Subham Verma (26), a resident of Ramol. He stated in his complaint that nine years back, Jyoti had gotten married to Sunil Shreeves and started living in the Vastral area. A couple of months back, a dispute broke out between Jyoti and her in-laws regarding household work. The verbal dispute turned ugly and got physical after she was beaten up by her husband. The matter was resolved later.

On Monday, Subham got a call from Shreeves who said that his sister Jyoti had committed suicide by hanging herself in her room. Regarding the matter, later, a case of abetment of suicide was lodged with the Ramol police station against husband and in-laws.
