The action was taken on the basis of a complaint lodged by the boy after his photo was shared on social media by an unknown user along with abusive messages
An 18-year-old girl was arrested on Friday by cyber cell police for defaming a boy on social media.
The action was taken on the basis of a complaint lodged by the boy after his photo was shared on social media by an unknown user along with abusive messages. The complaint was lodged on November 1.
The complainant said that around four months ago a Facebook user Mahi Sanghvi had uploaded his photos on her feed along with abusive messages against him. He said he was mentally harassed by the act.
Regarding the matter, the cyber cell police started an investigation, tracked the IP address of the user with the help of a technical team, and recovered the cellphone number of the accused.
Further, the location of the accused was traced to Sudharath Flats in Sabarmati area of the city and the girl was arrested.
When police officials reached the spot to arrest the accused they found out that the identity of the Facebook user was fake. In reality, the accused was an 18-year-old girl who is a first year B.Com student at SMPIC college.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused and the victim knew each other since childhood and were in touch. She told the investigators that she was bullied by the boy when she was in school and she wanted to take revenge. She said she created a fake account on Facebook to share photos of the boy with abusive messages to malign his reputation.
