Want to fly over the moon or perhaps try on a pair of Russian space glove which has been used by an astronaut? If yes, you pay a visit to the Science City which will be hosting a travelling exhibition titled Beyond Planet Earth.
Spread over an area of 9000 sq ft, the exhibition at Gujarat Science City will also have life-size and scale models of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover, Vostok Capsule, Sputnik 1, Moon boots, Depth X submersible, Lunar elevator and expandable Moon habitat and so on. Vostok 1 space capsule boosted Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, into orbit. In all the exhibition will provide six immersive environments each dealing with a different aspect of space.
The exhibition will also feature more than 20 original artefacts, including a Russian space glove and lunar tire which has been loaned by the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), New York and NASA. The latter has curated the exhibition. The event is also supported by MadaTech: The Israel National Museum of Science, Technology, & Space, Haifa, Israel.
"The exhibition will begin on Jan 17 and will be open till May 11, 2019. This is the first time that such an exhibition in the country will show artefacts associated with space exploration which is otherwise available only if you visit New York or NASA," said an official closely associated with the project.
The exhibition will give visitors an opportunity to smell outer space, simulate a liquid mirror telescope, deflect asteroids in a digital kiosk, learn about terraforming and even fly over the moon!
The exhibition is part of the 9th Edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
"It will take the students and visitors on a journey to explore the next frontier of future. Beyond Planet Earth and feature a series of immersive environments that offer a glimpse at what the next 50 to 100 years of space exploration may bring," said a release from the state government..
