As many as 56,464 homes have been built in Gujarat under the PMAY, while 85,797 other units are under construction, union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said in RS on Thursday.

The minister tabled the information in response to a question from RS member Parimal Nathwani, who had sought details about the rehabilitation of slum-dwellers and the time within which the government aimed to make the country slum-free.

As per the minister’s reply, the central government has sanctioned assistance of Rs2,700.59 crore for Gujarat, of which Rs1,455.75 crore has already been released.

Out of 1,82,276 sanctioned housing units in the state under PMAY (Urban), groundbreaking has been completed for 1,42,443 units in 164 cities and towns.
