5 gang rape teenager in Surat

Close on the heels of the Mumbai jounalists’ gang rape, a 16-year-old girl in Surat was gang raped by five people at a deserted corner of Sachin GIDC area in Surat. Though the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, it surfaced only on Wednesday night following a fight. Police arrested the three culprits, within hours of the complaint being registered.

The victim, a resident of Sachin GIDC area, and her boyfriend were talking on Tuesday afternoon when five people approached them. They then started threatening the duo and when the boy tried to resist their advances, they took him aside and thrashed him mercilessly. The culprits then dragged the victim into the bushes, and raping her by turns. They then threatened her of dire consequences if she divulged about their crime.

Threatened, the young couple maintained silence, but it surfaced on Wednesday night when the boyfriend spotted three of the rapists, while standing with his friends. With his friends  they accosted the culprits when the two other rapists also arrived at the scene and started fighting.

Police were informed which rushed to the spot and detained all the people. During investigation, the victim’s friend narrated the truth to the police. Shocked by the revelation, police recorded the victim’s statement and lodged a complaint. The victim was taken to new civil hospital for medical check-up on Thursday.

With hours of registering a complaint, police, late on Wednesday night, arrested three of the culprits, identified as Samarjit Jena, Gopal Jena and Ajaypal Jena, all residents of Sachin GIDC.

Search is on for the other two. All are casual labourers by profession.

Sources said that victim is the eldest child of parents hailing from Bihar. The duo were having an affair for the past six months.

However, when her parents learnt about the affair, they shifted to another society. However, they kept contact and were allegedly found in a compromising position by the five accused. They threatened them of informing her parents before raping her.
