Incumbent senior vice-president Jaimin Vasa will become the president for the year 2018-19.
Forty-seven contenders are in fray for 26 seats of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the deadline to file nominations ended on Saturday. Incumbent senior vice-president Jaimin Vasa will become the president for the year 2018-19.
The crucial fight will be in senior vice-president category between Durgesh Buch and Jayendra Tanna as well as between Hemant Shah and Bhargav Thakkar in vice-president category. Forty-four candidates are in fray for 23 seats of executive committee.
Last day for filing of nominations witnessed hectic activity as seven nominations were filed across categories. With the deadline to file nominations coming to an end, objections to nominations can be filed against the nominations and nominations paper scrutinised by May 29. Nominations can be withdrawn by May 30 and the final list will be ready by the same day.
Elections will be held on June 16 and the annual general meeting will be held on the same day. Counting of votes will be held and results declared on June 17. If there are objections to polling then, the requests for re-poll can be made within one hour of the declaration of results and objections against the results can be submitted by the evening of June 20.
Other categories, where the contest likely includes Corporate category, where there are four contenders for three seats: Patron/ Life member where four members are in fray for three seats, Regional Chamber where three candidates are in the ring for two seats. Moreover, there are six candidates for three seats of Business Associations, and 24 candidates for 12 seats of General category. However, one has to wait till May 30, which is the last day for withdrawal of candidates for the final tally to arrive.
The major contenders include Natwarlal Patel of Meghmani Organics and Pravin Kotak of JP Iscon, KI Patel of Aeris Colour Chem in Corporate category; Hiten Vasant, Sanjeev Chhajer, Saurin Parikh in Patron/Life member category; Gaurang Bhagat, Arvind Gajera, Dinesh Patel in business association category.
