"397 positive cases of seasonal flu have been detected in the state between January 1 and 22. Eight patients died during treatment," the state health department said.

Twenty-two per cent of the total swine flu cases were reported from Ahmedabad city, followed by 20 per cent from Kutch district. Vadodara and Rajkot municipal corporations accounted for nine and seven per cent of the cases respectively, it said, without providing a detailed break-up of the number of cases.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had said a day ago that 65 swine flu cases and two deaths were reported in the city until January 21 this year.

Meanwhile, swine flu data released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (ISDP) of the Union health ministry shows that Gujarat reported the second highest number of cases between January 1 and 13. The state recorded 210 cases in this period, while Rajasthan had 789 cases, the highest in the country. Rajasthan also reported 31 deaths in the same period.

The state health department listed several measures initiated to control the spread of the disease.
