300 medical seats get nod in Gujarat, says govt

State government on Friday announced setting up of two medical college in state. 300 more students aspiring to get admission in medical college in next academic year will be relieved as central government has given a nod to this proposal.

Nutan Medical College and Research Centre will set up a medical college at Visnagar, while Dharmasinh Desai Institute of Medical College at Nadiad.

State Education Minister Nitin Patel said that the medical colleges are set up under state government's Health Policy 2016. "Both the colleges are greenfield projects. Each college will have an intake of 150 students and hospitals will have 300 beds each," said Patel. The total intake in the state has risen to 4,450 students. Setting up of two new hospitals will provide affordable healthcare to more areas.

The process for increasing admissions for MBBS course has been going on for about a year, following which Medical Council of India (MCI) approved the proposal. Patel said that inspection of two new medical colleges at Amreli and Ahmedabad has been completed and soon these projects will also get a nod.
