These students from Ahmedabad chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) who climbed high on the national chart of successful candidates are Roshni Khanwani from Gandhidham who secured the 18th rank and two students from Ahmedabad — Kunal Bindra, 23rd rank and Archit Singhal who secured the 29th rank.

The results declared by ICAI were for the CA final exams that were held in May 2012. Results for both the groups stood at 15.45% for Ahmedabad centre. Of the total 1,385 students who appeared for exam, 214 students passed. In group one, of the 652 candidates, around 156 students passed and in group two, out of 817 candidates, 313 students passed.

Group one exam has subjects like accounts, law, financial reporting and audit, while group two has subjects like direct-indirect tax, brief management and EDP or system audit.

The result for CPT exam was also declared on Thursday. Shruti Agarwal from Ahmedabad secured the fifth rank nationally closely followed by Anand Vaswani in the 9th rank.

In India, around 30,976 students appeared in both groups of exam in CA final exams. Of them, 5,075 students, or 16.38% passed the exam. If the observations made by ICAI Ahmedabad chapter office bearers, is anything to go by the number of students making it to top 10 and top 50 has been on a decline.

Chairman of Ahmedabad chapter, Jainik Vakil said that this might be due to students not being focused on articleship sincerely. “I believe students should focus on articleship. This will give them practical training in subjects and increase their knowledge. All the toppers this year did their articleship sincerely. A perfect blend of theory and practical knowledge helps students,” he said.
