22 lakh Gujarat farmers get Rs 6,000 under Kisan Sanman Nidhi Yojana

As many as 22 lakh farmers from Gujarat on Sunday received Rs 6,000 credited directly into their accounts. The amount was released by central government under recently launched Pradhanmantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi Yojana that was announced in the recently presented budget for financial year 2019-20. There are total 46 lakh farmers from across Gujarat who registered on the portal to avail the scheme.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme on Sunday from Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh. The process for the registration under the scheme had begun 15 days back that gives input assistance of Rs 6,000 to farmers in three installments every year. Gujarat has total 60 lakh farmers who are eligible to get benefits under the scheme.

The press release issued on Sunday by the agriculture minister RC Faldu said, "We had started implementing the scheme on the very next day of announcement by the Prime Minister. Gujarat government has developed a special portal for registration through which farmers falling in the scope of beneficiaries can register. We had activated more than 20,000 entry points so that access to portal did not become difficult during heavy traffic."

"It is really an achievement for Gujarat government to facilitate 87 per cent of total farmers for registration. Besides registration, Gujarat is also leading in successful verification of registered families of farmers that tends to be 90 per cent. All the farmers who have been verified have received the assistance and remaining will get it soon after verification process is completed," the minister said.

The process of verification is done through the public show the public financial management system (PFMS). Sources from Gujarat government said, "The response from farmers for this scheme initially was very poor, especially from Saurashtra region. The issue was discussed in cabinet meeting of Gujarat government and the CM had directed the officials to expedite the process. The government was concerned on agrarian crisis that may increase worries of ruling party during polls." The number was 1.30 lakh after first week but the number shoot up to 46 lakh in the following week as per records.
