"There is a need to amend the excise rules in line with the latest Supreme Court order which exempted Meghalaya and Sikkim due to the unique topography," Zenith told reporters.

"We will do it as soon as possible in consultation with the Law department and the government," he said.

On Friday, the Supreme Court had exempted Sikkim and Meghalaya from the 500-metre cap on liquor vends alongside highways.
