The case against Gujarat University vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi under the Atrocities Act has been sent to the special atrocity court. The court has fixed the date for further hearing on May 3. Trivedi appeared before the metropolitan court on Thursday.

The GU V-C is facing charges for passing casteist remarks against Pankaj Shrimali, head of the department of LC Mehta Arts College. Shrimali had lodged a complaint against Trivedi at Gujarat University police station. A month back Trivedi was arrested by the police and produced before the court. Later, the police filed a chargesheet against him.

Trivedi's lawyer Manubhai Amin said, "He appeared before the court for the court's legal process to send the case for trial. He marked his presence before the court and later on the case was sent to the special court for further legal procedure to conduct trial against him."
