Students affiliated to University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) are eligible to take the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) from next year, The National Law Institute University in Bhopal has confirmed. The decision paves the way for Cambridge students to enroll in any recognised law institute in India.Welcoming the decision, Ian Chambers, regional manager of CIE South Asia, said: “Cambridge students are eligible to sit for the medical and engineering entrance tests in India. I am delighted that the path has been opened for them to take the CLAT too. The legal profession is a popular career choice for Cambridge students, and this ruling opens new doors for them.”More than 230 schools are registered with CIE in India, offering qualifications including Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International A Level. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognises Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International A Level as equivalent to Standard X and Standard XII level respectively. In the US and Canada, academic credit is awarded by many universities for International A Levels which can mean up to one year less study for undergraduates. In addition, Cambridge International A Level students have access to top UK universities, including Cambridge, Oxford and the London School of Economics, without having to complete a foundation year — unlike students from some Indian boards who may be required to do so.
