Kaleidoscope: Want to explore your career

I have completed TYBA (Economics). I am confused whether to pursue MA or MBA? Could you please suggest which one should I go for and also mention some good institutes?—Narendra TiwariYour choice of MBA or MA should depend upon your interest & aptitude .You can consider doing the MA in areas like developmental economics , econometrics etc but must continue to do your PhD in order to have a good career foundation .You can then get jobs as a researcher , professor in any university system or some corporates .If you choose to pursue your MBA , then you need to decide your area of specialisation first namely finance or marketing or such .You can then apply to the IIM'S & other B schools of repute to pursue your MBA .Further Mumbai University offers excellent study options for both MA & MBA & there are numerous affiliated colleges that can offer you best quality education.I am an electrical engineer, currently working for a power consultancy firm based in Mumbai. I am confused as to should I leave my job and pursue full-time higher studies or do a part-time course which will help me build my career.Please guide as to which course should I choose?—Bapan MaityIn case you have upto 2 or 3 years experience ; I would then recommend that you do your full time MBA . A full time MBA programme has more value in the employment market than a part time MBA .Incase you have atleast 5 years of work experience after your engineering ; you need to then consider a part time MBA .You may look at the executive MBA options from the IIM's, XLRI , NMIMS , ITM Business School to name a few or pursue the 3 year part time MBA programme with contact classes offered by Mumbai University .You need to visit a career counselor & do an aptitude test to decide which MBA specialization suits your best ..such as operations management , technology management ,supply chain management ,marketing ,finance & such .I have completed my BE in electronics and communication with second class. I am finding it difficult to get a good job. I want to do MBA and become a professor. Do you think it is a good option? Or can you suggest any finance related courses that will help me get a job in the banking sector?—Sandeep BasavarajMy first advise to you is to consult a career counselor and do an aptitude test .You seem to be confused between several options such as becoming a professor , working in a bank and such .You need to first decide whether you wish to seek a career in teaching or go in for a corporate career .Incase you wish to take up teaching as a career , you need to pursue your PhD in your chosen area of specialisation after completion of your MBA .Alternatively you can compete your MBA with specialization in Finance , Banking & such and then seek a career in the banking sector .
