COMMENTARY
That is all from us here. Stay tuned for the match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Mumbai. Take care and see you for the match between Bangladesh and South Africa. Cheers!!
Porterfield: The pitch flattened up as the game progressed. The bowling let us down a bit but our batting stood up. We are very happy with the preparation, but we are disappointed that we could not win some close games. If we had results on our side, we could have qualified. We will be looking to do well as a full member in the next world cup. It is great to play in the Eden Gardens and we had some Indian fans who supported us.
Porterfield will accept the MoM award on behalf of Stirling who is down with cramps.
Borren: We made a pretty good effort, but we could have done with some runs in the last four balls. I was happy with the effort at the half way stage, but our bowlers let us down. We were miserable, but we probably bowled straighter and we made it a bit tough for the Irish. Stirling is an amazing player. These are memorable experiences and we have learnt an awful lot. We have learnt that we need to build partnerships and get to a big score and we have to bowl a good line and length on flat wickets.
Niall O'Brien: The people of India have been fantastic. We played really good cricket in this tournament. We didn't bowl well in the last few matches, but our batting has clicked big time.
Ireland have truly shown that they are the best associate nation in this World Cup. They have ended the tournament on a high as they chased down a target of 300 plus in this tournament for the second time with six wickets to spare. The platform was set by Stirling and Porterfield who shared a record 177 run opening stand. Porterfield got an early reprieve when Raja dropped him on 1. Stirling scored boundaries at will as he blazed away to his century. However, the Netherlands came right back with the quick dismissals of Porterfield and Stirling. Niall O Brien came in and held the innings together, building crucial partnerships with Joyce and Wilson. It was a disappointing effort in the field from the Dutch and they go home without a single win. Stay tuned for the presentation...
