Omran Daqneesh, the little boy whose bloodied and dusty face became synonymous of the suffering of the innocent citizens of Aleppo, looks at the brink of health in this new video footage of him.

The young boy continues to live in Aleppo, which is now under the control of pro-Bashar al-Assad forces, but this is the first time Omran has appeared publicly since he was wounded in a regime airstrike.

Omran Daqneesh and his father appeared in a video clip telling the reporter, Kinana Allouche, he didn't want to leave Syria.

Daqneesh's father told the reporter his son was in good health and added that he had cut his son's hair and changed his name to protect him from being kidnapped and accused rebels of intimidating the family.

It was not clear whether the family had been coerced into taking part in the short video posted on Facebook, the first time the boy had been seen publicly since he was wounded.

In August on 2016, a video of the small boy, bloodied and covered in dust, who was rescued after an apparent air strike in the Syrian city of Aleppo, sparked outrage and concern on social media on Thursday. His brother was killed in the airstrike. Omran became the face of the suffering of the war that had ravaged Syria for over five years.

Footage of the then 5-year-old sitting alone in an ambulance looking dazed and shocked, staring silently as he tried to wipe the blood off his head, seemingly unaware of his injuries quickly went viral, and gave rise to the hashtag #SyrianBoy.
