A 162 gram egg laid by a hen at a poultry farm in Punjab has made it to the Limca Book of Records as the biggest reported in the country. Surinder Kumar Joshi, the poultry farm owner who has 30,000 birds at his two-acre facility in Derabassi, about 25
km from here, said the egg was laid by a 10-month-old hen of Lohmann breed, weighing 1.25 kg, about ten months back.

"It had come as a great surprise. Most others hens of the breed normally lay eggs weighing between 50 and 60 gram," Joshi said. Aarthy Muthana Singh of the Limca Book of Records said that the egg had made a record under the 'Largest Hen Egg'
category.

"The 162 gram egg is the largest hen egg and it has been mentioned in Page 219, agriculture section of the record book's special edition this year," Singh told PTI from
Gurgaon. He said the previous record was held by 160 gram egg from a farm in Andhra Pradesh and had made to the record book in 2003.

"Last month, I received the certificate from the Limca Book of Records stating that the egg has made a national record," Joshi said. The egg is 10 cm in length and 5 cm in height. Joshi said another hen at his farm had laid an egg weighing 132 gram in 2007.
