HANOI: Vietnam authorities have seized more than a tonne of live snakes discovered on a flight from Bangkok, the second such find in a month at Hanoi's international airport, officials said on Friday.

The reptiles arrived packed into 60 cargo containers on a Vietnam Airlines flight on Thursday, destined for an address on the outskirts of the capital.

"We discovered more than one tonne of live snakes on the plane," Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development official Ha Cong Tuan said.

The snakes have been transferred to an animal rescue centre.

On December 19, Vietnamese airport officials found 700 live snakes on a Thai Airways flight from Indonesia but destroyed them after no-one claimed them.
