A US drone today struck a terrorist compound in Pakistan's lawless North Waziristan tribal region killing at least four Taliban militants, the latest in a series of such attacks in the region bordering Afghanistan.

The drone fired two missiles at the compound in a forest in Khaisuri, 40 km east of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal agency, security officials said.

Four Taliban militants were killed and two others injured while a vehicle was destroyed in the strike, they said.

The Haqqani and Hafiz Gul Bahadar militant networks are active in the region, from where they carry out attacks on NATO and allied forces across the border in Afghanistan, the security officials said.

Today's attack came a day after US drones killed at least 10 suspected militants in two strikes in North Waziristan yesterday.

The US has significantly increased drone strikes in Pakistan in recent weeks.

Over 100 people have been killed in more than two dozen missile attacks since early September.

The increase in missile strikes has coincided with reports that Western intelligence agencies have uncovered a plot by militants based in the tribal belt to target major European cities.
