A month-long photo exhibition organised by various UN agencies to highlight the status and achievements of women in war-hit Afghanistan kicked off Saturday in the capital.

The photo exhibition was held at the historic Babur Garden, Xinhua reported.

The event is being jointly organised by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Women Afghanistan with support from the Afghan ministry of women's affairs.

The pictures reflect the achievements and status of women in the Afghan society, said Syed Sadiq, acting country director of UN Women Afghanistan.

"In these photos, you will see women in different roles exemplifying their equal contribution to peace and overall development of Afghanistan," Sadiq told Xinhua.

Kabul has also opened its first women-only internet cafe, in a bid to offer women a chance to connect to the world without disturbance from men.
