Sri Lanka's main Tamil minority party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA), has rejected the government's war commission report saying it fell short earning Tamil people's confidence.

The party also said the report did not match international standards applicable to accountability processes.

In an over 100-page analysis of the report, issued a month after Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) report was made public and ahead of External Affairs Minister SM Krishna's visit, the TNA said, "The LLRC's processes and practices have failed to win the confidence of the Tamil community.

"The Commission also falls dramatically short of international standards applicable to accountability processes".

The LLRC was appointed by president Mahinda Rajapaksa to look back at the island's violent ethnic separatist campaign.

The report dismissed accusations that government troops had deliberately targeted civilians during the final phase of the conflict which ended the LTTE's over three decade old separatist campaign.

The international community led by the UN had called for an independent investigations into civilian killings and alleged war crimes committed by both government troops and the LTTE.

The TNA analysis contends that the LLRC had disregarded credible allegations made against the government with respect to violations of International Humanitarian Law.

Further, it adds that the LLRC's approach and methodology in dealing with the above allegations was flawed due to the selective application of evidence.

"The LLRC was woefully under-resourced for the task of investigating violations of IHL and IHRL during the final stages of the war".

The TNA is currently engaged with government on a round of talks aimed at achieving a political solution to the Tamil grievances.
