Kathmandu: At least 16 people were killed and over two dozen injured today when a bus in which they were travelling plunged into a gorge in the mountainous western region of Nepal.
The bus, which had around 35-40 people, was heading to Krishnanagar when the accident occurred at Hungasapur village, about 320 km from here, at 8.30 am (local time).
Sixteen passengers died on the spot while 25 were badly injured, 10 of them critically, police said.
The injured were undergoing treatment at the Kapilvastu district hospital, a police official was quoted as saying by a local daily.
Rescue teams, who were dispatched after the incident, were facing problems as operations were being hampered by the hilly terrain of the region, Argakhachi district administrator Balbadra Giri said.
