ShareLOS ANGELES: United States reality television star Nicole Richie was arrested for driving under influence early on Monday after being spotted driving the wrong way down a motorway, police and reports said.
Richie, the adopted daughter of pop legend Lionel Richie and star of the The Simple Life, was arrested by police in the Los Angeles district of Burbank at 4.50 am, the TMZ.com celebrity news website said.
The 25-year-old was released after 7am after posting $15,000 bail for the misdemeanor, according to the sheriff's department, which did not immediately release other details of the arrest.
TMZ reported that Richie, who was driving alone in her black Mercedes SUV, had told officers she had taken prescription painkillers and marijuana.
Richie, the god-daughter of Michael Jackson, rose to fame with celebrity socialite Paris Hilton in the pair's The Simple Life television show.
Hilton was arrested for driving under influence earlier this year.
