Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who shot to prominence after drawing cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in 2007, has said he is getting used to being a target of Islamic extremists.

"I've been around since 2007, and I have had many threats and incidents before, so, I have got use to it,” The Telegraph quoted Vilks, as saying.

Suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly sent a threatening message to the Swedish media shortly before the explosions, warning punishments for the country's presence in Afghanistan and for Vilks's caricatures.

However, Vilks said it was “expected" that he would be mentioned in the warning.
