Poland's chief prosecutor said on Monday there was no evidence at present to suggest the pilot of the doomed plane carrying president Lech Kaczynski had been pressured to land on Saturday.

There has been speculation in some media that Kaczynski himself urged the pilot of his plane to land shortly before the ageing Tupolev plane crashed in thick fog in western Russia. Traffic controllers had urged the plane not to land.

Asked whether the pilot had come under pressure to land, Andrzej Seremet told a news conference: "At the current level of the investigation, there is no such information."
