Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty has said that he would be attending a long-running Sikh parade in downtown Toronto on Sunday despite calls for him to skip the plan.

A group calling itself the Sikh Activist Network, in a meeting with parade organisers last week, asked McGuinty not to attend or speak at the 33rd annual Sikh Khalsa Day parade that attracts about 80,000 people.

The group is seeking an apology from McGuinty over reception given by him in Toronto last month to road, transport and highways minister Kamal Nath, who some Sikh groups allege had a role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Balkaran Singh Gill, a member of the Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council organising the parade, said there won't be any problems for the premier.
